Blue and Brown

This one was a challenge. I just don’t think the colors blue and brown go together. But it was commissioned for a friend’s baby shower. The colors for the baby shower was blue and brown. I don’t know. How did you think I did?

Quilting

“We stitch together quilts of meaning to keep us warm and safe, with whatever patches of beauty and utility we have on hand.” ― Anne LamottAnne Lamott

I started tying quilts a couple of years ago to help out a friend of mine who was going through a loss. I am not the best at comforting with words and wanted to show them that I cared. My mom came up with the grand idea of making a quilt for them. It was a marvelous idea! There is just something so comforting about quilts and blankets. They keep us warm and provide a canvas for those with a vivid imagination. Anything from blanket forts to keeping us safe from monsters under the bed. The hopes of each of these quilts was to provide comfort and love as we all go through difficult times in our lives.

Kitty Cat and Puppy Dog

Rose gold was this girl’s favorite color. Unfortunately I couldn’t find yarn that came close to that color :/ but we did find a pretty rose pink. It was still received with a smile on her face and is used daily with lots of love <3

The top is a white fabric with a cute cat face and some of the kitties have cute little golden crowns. The back features a variety of puppy dogs who are hidden among the flowers. Can you find them?

A Little Bit of This and A Little Bit of That

One of the first quilts I ever had to figure out how to long arm. This one was for a wonderful woman who had served in Japan. Her husband served in the Netherlands as full time Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints missionaries. This was to serve as a reminder of their love when we had to say good bye to her husband from this mortal plane.

The front of this quilt show a beautiful array of Japanese umbrellas. The border is a more traditional seigaiha pattern symbolizing a peaceful sea, quiet strength and good fortune. The backing to this was sights around the Netherlands in a Delft blue color. It was long armed with hearts.

Longarm is a term used for a technique:
Longarm quilting is the process by which a longarm sewing machine is used to sew together a quilt top, quilt batting and quilt backing into a finished quilt.

“Luke, I am your father”…

Nerdy quilt for a nerdy young woman. I have a love for Star Wars, in fact my kitchen is a droid depot theme with a heavy hit in the direction of R2D2 and C3P0. So when I got a chance to tie this cute quilt with the Star Wars theme was too good to pass up. Her favorite color is purple. Both the yarn and borders used that color.

The front is a girly X wing fight with floral decor. The back is the Millennium Falcon with the original crew names of Luke, Leia, Hans, and Chewie in gold font.

For those of you who have not seen Star Wars. For shame, it is a brilliant movie series filled with romance, danger, coming of age, good vs evil and thrills. But only watch the original 6. After that the story feels repetitive and a cash grab.
